Maastricht Region Community

Maastricht University Library introduced a new interactive communication platform this week.

Library Wall?
The library website provides access to our products and services. The Library Wall is the dynamic add-on to the website and will be our central spot for communication and announcements. The Library Wall provides a spectrum of opportunities for you to react, participate, and share information with us and other readers. You can also subscribe to new posts or specific categories, so you can keep up with us via channels you choose. You can read more about this service in the “Alerts” section.

We have chosen English as the primary Wall language because we like to interact with all our users (often of non-Dutch nationalities). However, each message has a translation button that activates the Google translation service and will translate the text to any other language on the fly.

Layout
The layout of the Library Wall is built on three modules:

Featured Articles:
editorials aimed to inform you about our library organization and strategy, new services, trends and tips.

Announcements:
messages regarding to our regular services, such as different opening hours, maintenance notice, registration for courses, new databases and accessions.

Spotted:
provides an overview of references and links to other articles in information management, which we think could be of interest to you. You can also suggest interesting articles yourselves.

Respond and participate
Your feedback is highly appreciated. In almost all items you have the opportunity to comment on the article or a previous reaction and -where appropriate- we inform you on the action been taken based on your comment. On top of responding to articles, you can share your ideas and suggestions via ‘My Suggestions’ in the top menu. In the near future we will also invite you periodically to share your opinion on several themes.

Alerts
In addition to reading the news on the Library Wall, you can choose to stay informed by subscribing to one or more RSS feeds. You can include these feeds in your favorite reader, personal homepage, or other application or site to manage RSS feeds. Read more about RSS feeds and alerts under ‘Subscribe’ in the Library Wall top menu.

Social Media and Publication Channels
Besides the possibility of subscribing to RSS, we will also publish our updates to some popular social networking platforms, to start with Twitter and Facebook. Later we will connect to LinkedIn as well.
If you use these platforms, you can easily connect with us and will be automatically kept informed on library announcements.

The Library Wall is also available via a mobile interface for PDA, iPhone and other handheld devices.
