Manifesta, the European Biennial for Contemporary Art, designed to create a pan-European platform for the contemporary visual arts, will be held for the 9th time in Belgian Limburg in 2012.
The Province of Limburg (B) is establishing a budget of EUR 3m to start up the event, and it will be held at the Z33 arts center in Hasselt. Manifesta will be based on the past of Limburg as a mining area, and parts of the exhibition will be in what once were mining buildings. The old Philips factory in Hasselt, where the CD player and cassette recorder were invented, could also be an attractive center.
